Powertoys - that great source of Win95 shell enhancement tools including the almost indispensable TweakUI. We also love XMouse, Quickres and Deskmenu. If you add anything to Windows 95, add the Powertoys! If you're using Windows 98, get the Win98 specific version of TweakUI .
Kernel Toys - The Windows 95 kernel team got jealous of all the attention the shell team has been getting from its PowerToys, so they decided to polish up their own personal toys and make their own web page. Strictly for Power Users!

Did you know that with a sound card, some cheap speakers and a cheap microphone, you can talk to people anywhere in the world, and it sounds better than the telephone? And no need to use the Microsoft servers... You can call the person direct if you have their IP address at log on (use winipcfg.exe in C:\windows).
CuteFTP - For FTP transfers, nothing beats CuteFTP, the highest rated FTP client on the Internet. For the novice to the advanced user, CuteFTP covers it all. Grab your copy now! It's Cute, but take it seriously!

Thus, due to their 100% Windows integration and their incredibly small overhead of only a few KB's, this can reduce the size of any programmers installation exe's dramatically. Simple and bullet-proof, even for novice users.
RegClean - Windows 95 uses a registry to store information about all the programs you install. Over time lots of obsolete entries remain which can be removed using RegClean. This utility from Microsoft is explained more in MSKB article 147769 page. This page gives instructions on how to use it. We recommend backing up your Registry first. If you need help with this, take a quick look at our manual instructions for backing up your registry.
RegMaid is a utility designed to clean up invalid registry entries caused by deleting OLE projects created with Visual C++ and Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC). RegMaid provides information about entries that are believed to be problematic within the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT: CLSID, ProgId, TypeLib, and Interface sections of the registry. It does not currently have an Archive and Restore capability. This utility from Microsoft is explained more in MSKB article Q156078. Once again we'd advise backing up the registry first.
Windows95 Registry FAQ - "95 Things You Need To Know About The Registry" - a must read available in freeware, as a downloadable Windows helpfile.

Please do not send Windows support questions by e-mail, they will go unanswered! We get many mails asking the same things, so that's one of the reasons we've set up a Support BBS. Read through the posts, and if you don't find an answer to your problem, post a message. This will benefit everyone in a similar situation (and while you are there, why not answer some of the questions you know the answer to!).
